Keppel O&M secures US$97 million offshore substation deal
Set for completion in 2025, the 600MW substation will be deployed in an offshore wind site in Asia-Pacific
Tom King 6 Jan 2023

Keppel Offshore & Marine (Keppel O&M), through its wholly owned subsidiary Keppel FELS Limited (Keppel FELS), has secured a contract from an unnamed international renewable energy company for the construction of an offshore substation (OSS) worth approximately US$97 million.

Keppel FELS is Keppel O&M’s shipbuilding company specializing in building jack-up rigs, semi-submersible rigs, and special vessels. The latest deal bolsters the company’s growing track record in delivering offshore wind substation solutions.

Keppel O&M’s work scope for the deal comprises the engineering, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning of the complete substation. The OSS will have a capacity of 600 megawatts and is scheduled to be completed in 2025. It will be deployed in an offshore wind site in the Asia-Pacific region.

Commenting on the agreement, Tan Leong Peng, managing director (new energy and business) at Keppel O&M, says: “We are pleased to strengthen our track record in offshore wind solutions. As we extend our footprint and deepen our expertise in the offshore renewables industry, Keppel O&M is well-placed to support the growing demand for offshore wind solutions and contribute towards the global energy transition.”

Strengthening its foothold across the value chain of offshore renewables, Keppel O&M is currently building an HVDC converter station for offshore wind farms in the German sector of the North Sea, two OSS units for an offshore wind farm, as well as the first wind turbine installation vessel in the United States. In 2021 it delivered two OSS projects, which are now operational in Taiwan.
