Asset manager BNY Investments has appointed Masaaki Sakakibara as its head of Japan, reporting to Doni Shamsuddin, the company’s chief executive officer for Asia-Pacific.
Masaaki joins BNY Investments from Mercer Japan, where he was its wealth business country leader and CEO of Mercer Investments (Japan). Prior to that, he was the head of sales, client service and marketing of Western Asset Management Japan. He also held sales positions at Goldman Sachs Asset Management earlier in his career.
BNY Investments is one of the world’s largest asset managers, managing almost US$2 trillion across a range of traditional and alternative assets.
“Masaaki brings a wealth of experience managing multi-disciplinary business,” Shamsuddin says. “His track record of driving business growth will be vital to our long-term success in Japan.”
