Prysmian inks EPCIC deal for French offshore wind
Cable links to connect Fos and Narbonnaise farms to RTE transmission grid
Michael Marray   22 Jan 2025

Italian cabling company Prysmian has signed a framework agreement with French transmission system operator Reseau de Transport d'Electricite ( RTE ) for the engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning ( EPCIC ) of submarine power cable links.

These links will connect the Fos and Narbonnaise offshore wind farms to the French transmission grid covering both submarine and land parts, including landfall works. The combined value of the two EPCIC contracts is around €700 million ( US$726.97 million ).

A consortium composed of Ocean Winds and Eolien en Mer Participation will develop the 250-megawatt  Narbonaise project. Eoliennes Mediterranee Grand Large, in which EDF Renewables and Maple Power are shareholders, will develop the 250MW project in the Gulf of Fos.

The French government selected the winners via a competitive bidding process. Orrick advised the French Directorate General for Energy and Climate.

The award of these projects is part of France's goal to reach 18 gigawatts of offshore wind farms in operation by 2035 and 45GW by 2050, particularly through the development of floating wind farm projects. The award brings the total capacity of offshore wind projects in operation, under construction and in development on French coasts to nearly 5.3GW.
